Boucle is an interesting textured fabric made of looped yarn. It ranges in size of its loops, from large curls to tight circles. This adds, dimension, depth and interest to the fabric. The weave keeps one yarn tight and the other loose forming the varying loops and pile. To make boucle, takes time and it is meticulous.

Boucle is typically made from wool or a wool blend which can include cotton or silk fibres. Made from boucle yarn boucle is very common, it is a yarn used in many fabrics including jacquards and trims for upholstery and soft furnishings. Boucle is durable and comfortable and it adds texture to any piece of furniture. Its probably best used for homes without pets.

Boucle: Is it a good choice for upholstery

Boucle is a lovely choice for upholstery, due to it being generally a natural product, it offers the qualities of wool, silk or cotton. This all depends on the blend of the curly firbe or yarn.

Boucle has been popular in waves. It gained popularity in the 1920’s-30’s for clothing and has been used in upholstery since then. It can often be found on Mid Century modern furniture. Boucle, due to its texture is inviting and cosy. Great for a stand alone piece of furniture.

Boucle comes in a range of colours and weights, making it a good option for various pieces. Its only obvious potantial disadvantage is snagging, especially if the loops are large or delicate.
