Fabrics: Horsehair

Horse hair fabrics are made from the tail hair of live horses and it is used for the weft thread. As it is made from horse hair the width of the fabric is very limited and usually is a maximum of 70cm

Characteristics:

Horse hair offers many unique characteristics. Its highly durable, stain resistant, it is easy to maintain, has a silky sheen and is ideal for sofas and chairs. It can be dyed in a range of colours and works well if you would like to embroider the fabric. If over 67% of the fibres used is horse hair, blended with cotton, it is naturally flame retardant. If it is blended with polyester, it would need a back coating to meet FR standards.
