Fabrics: Velvet

Velvet is synonymous with luxury. One of the most characteristic qualities of velvet is its soft fuzzy pile, they are perpendicular fibres on the surface of velvet. The pile makes velvet look smooth and with rich texture.

At one time, velvet was made from silk and was an expensive fabric. Now it can be made from synthetic fibres and cotton. There are no limit to what you can make with velvet and velvet is popular in upholstery and soft furnishings.

Characteristics:

Velvet offers a luxurious feel when used in upholstery. Due to its pile, it is rich in colour and the colour can vary in shade depending on pile direction. Velvets can be delicate and the pile can be crushed on some velvets so its durability maybe less that some other upholstery fabrics.
