Nylon: Strong and a Silk substitute

Nylon is the name of a family of synthetic polymers and is a completely synthetic fabric with no organic material used to create it. In early production, nylon was sold as a fabric stronger than steel but overtime it would run or tear. Manufacturers then started mixing nylon with other fibres to retain nylons good qualities and eliminate the undesirable qualities. Nylon is blended with a large variation of other fabrics

Characteristics:

Nylon is blended with other fibres and makes very strong upholstery fabric. Nylon was developed as a replacement for silk so it looks and feels like silk and has elasticity also. It is very resilient and in a blended fabric it helps eliminate crushing of velvet and chenille. It does not soil easily and due to the elastic, it does not wrinkle easily. It has a tendency to fade relatively quickly. The most common use for nylon in upholstery is the zips
